You turned on the washing machine, but the machine stopped during washing or rinsing. You do not hear the usual sound of the drain pump or it hums, crackles, but the washing machine does not drain.

Let's figure out why the washing machine has stopped draining water. In half of the cases, everything is fine with the equipment, there are no breakdowns. Other reasons prevent the drain.

What you can do yourself

  • The program stops washing with water is selected. The machine stops without finishing the work if the program stops without draining water is selected. This mode is used for highly wrinkled fabrics. The wash itself is finished, but the water from the tank does not drain to protect the items from wrinkling. If you accidentally turn on this mode, change the program and start a regular wash with draining. For delicate items, you need to drain the tank without spinning.
  • The drain filter is clogged. It is located in the drain path in front of the drain pump, traps debris and protects the pump from mechanical failures of the impeller. Without regular cleaning, debris accumulates and creates an obstacle in the path of water. The pump cannot pump out water that reaches it drop by drop. Clean the filter regularly, at least several times a year. This will protect the pump and the washing machine from unnecessary breakdowns, and you will save yourself from unnecessary repair costs. Instructions for cleaning the filter are in the manual for your washing machine. It indicates where to find the filter unit, how to clean it, and how often. If you have additional questions, you can ask our technicians.
  • A clogged siphon or drain pipe. The drain hose of the washing machine is connected to the sink siphon or directly to the sewer pipe through a branch. The siphon or pipe becomes clogged over time. A clogged siphon will be “signaled” by water retention in the sink; a blockage in the pipe will be less noticeable if only the washing machine is “sitting” on it. You can check that the cause is in the sewer, and not in the machine itself. To do this, before starting to wash on an empty machine, you need to pull the hose out of the siphon or branch, lower it into the container and turn on the quick wash and drain. If the water drains without delay, then the problem is in the sewer. Disassemble the siphon to clean it. To remove a blockage in the pipe, use special means or use a plumbing cable.

Possible breakdowns

The reasons why the washing machine does not drain water may be a faulty drain pump, pressure switch, control module, or a clogged drain line.

Drain pump

The pump breaks down because of debris that has slipped through the filter and got into the impeller or wound around the shaft. The pump motor fails or the impeller breaks. In the first case, the pump does not work at all, in the second, the damaged pump crackles, rattles, but the machine pumps out water poorly, does not drain at all and hangs with water during washing or rinsing.

A faulty pump is replaced with a new one; it cannot be repaired.

Blockage in the drain line

Water from the tank passes through a branch pipe, filter, pump, and drain hose. Any section of the drain tract can become clogged. We have already considered the situation with the filter and pump. Small items that have slipped out of the tank most often get stuck in the branch pipe, and coins, metal objects, napkins, and pieces of paper also accumulate. The blockage accumulates inside the branch pipe or where the snail connects to the tank. The hose becomes clogged with fabric residues, wool, and paper dust from disposable handkerchiefs that have gotten into the pump.

The technician will check the drain tract and remove the blockage. If the pump breaks down due to debris, it will have to be replaced with a new one.

Pressure switch error

Water may remain in the machine due to a breakdown of the pressure switch, which controls the water level in the washing machine. This happens when the level sensor gets stuck in the "empty tank" position. The control module receives a message that there is no water and stops the drain.

The technician will determine the cause of the failure and repair or replace the sensor.

Control unit

The washing machine sometimes stops draining due to a breakdown of the control unit. The reason for the failure is damage to the board in the section responsible for controlling the pump. Most often, radio components and tracks burn out, sometimes the contacts of the wires to the pump become loose.

The technician will check the unit and tell you what needs to be done: board repair or replacement. In case of repair, the burnt elements are restored, the microcircuit tracks are soldered.
