The drum of the LG washing machine can break down for various reasons - from wear and tear as a result of long-term use, damage by foreign objects, destruction of the back wall or a manufacturing defect. Heavy loads, improper use, overloading of household appliances - all this leads to a breakdown of the drum. It is better to entrust the replacement of this part to the professionals of our service center. We provide high quality services and provide a branded guarantee.

When does a drum replacement in an LG washing machine need to be done?

This procedure is rarely required, and most services advise thinking carefully: is it worth changing the drum of the washing machine? Often, a rational solution is to buy a new unit. However, there are people who do not consider this option at all - they get used to their old "home helpers" and are ready to fix all their breakdowns to the last.

The drum itself usually breaks down during a very long service life of the washing machine. In general, this part is considered one of the most invulnerable parts of the washing machine, but it can also break.

Drums are subject to replacement if holes form or when their walls rot. With corrosion it is clear, but holes are often formed due to foreign objects (especially heavy ones) getting into the drum of the washing machine. Keys, coins, and many other things fall out of pockets that we forgot to empty before washing.

LG Washing Machine Drum Replacement

You know very well how fast the drum rotates when the spin cycle starts, and even a small metal object can exert serious pressure on the walls. This leads to deformation, and this also includes owners who throw trousers or jeans into the washing machine directly with a belt, especially if the buckle is quite massive. The most dangerous thing is a bunch of keys.

As for plastic tanks (the drum is placed in them), which can crack, people sometimes use high-quality glue. Now, how long the glued part will last is another question. It is better to change it too.

The process of replacing the drum in a washing machine

Let us warn you right away: each model of LG washing machine has its own design features, so we strongly recommend that you contact competent specialists for repairs ! New models of washing machines from this manufacturer have a direct drive, which significantly complicates the disassembly process!

Let's start with the necessary tools:

  • A metal pin approximately 4 cm long,
  • Medium sized hammer,
  • Pliers,
  • Sealant - a universal product will do,
  • Wd-40 lubricant, it is needed for easier removal of fasteners. You can use something similar,
  • A set of Phillips and flat head screwdrivers,
  • Adjustable wrench,
  • Set of horn heads.

Additionally, you may need nippers, wrenches, and a set of Allen keys. So, the order of disassembling the washing machine:

  • The device is disconnected from the power supply and water.
  • The technician unscrews the screws to dismantle the top panel. Removes it and puts it aside.
  • Removes the powder tray.
  • Next, the service center employee unscrews the bolts that hold the washing machine control panel.
  • The "fine work" begins - it is important to disconnect the wiring from the electronic board as carefully as possible without damaging its contacts!
  • Disconnected. The technician takes a thin screwdriver and removes the bottom panel from the latches, putting it aside.
  • The worker will also use a screwdriver to detach the metal clamp that holds the door cuff. After loosening the fastening, the cuff is carefully removed.
  • Now the service center employee manually pulls out the outer part of the cuff and inserts the seal directly into the drum.
  • UBL - hatch blocking device. It needs to be freed from wires without damaging the contacts. The technician will unscrew the bolts and remove the sensor of this device.
  • Now he needs to unscrew the screws that secure the front panel of the washing machine. The panel is removed and put aside.
  • Finally, the worker got to the tank and drum, now he will have to carefully disconnect all the fasteners. These are the clamps of the pipe, pressure sensor, water intake valve. Counterweights and fasteners of shock-absorbing elements are removed.
  • The wires too - from the heating element (it's better to take the heater out altogether), the engine, the temperature sensor and the pump.
  • The technician removes the motor and now the tank and drum can be removed.

It is difficult to pull it out alone, you need two people: one will lift it, and the other will unhook the springs. Now the master will have to disassemble the tank. Like this:

  • The extracted tank with the drum consists of two half-tanks, they are also connected - the fasteners of the two halves are carefully unscrewed.
  • The central screw is unscrewed.
  • It is lubricated and screwed into place - the employee will begin to knock out the drum so as not to damage the shaft during the work.
  • The master inserts the end of the pin into the screwed-in screw and begins to carefully tap it with a hammer, knocks it out - that's it, now he can remove the drum.
  • He holds a drum with a crosspiece in his hands (it can also be damaged), which he carefully unscrews and puts aside.

All that remains is to take a new part and put it in place, assembling the washing machine in reverse order! No, the technician will not only disassemble but also inspect other parts for possible damage - for example, bearings may need to be replaced. Even during the operation of the washing machine, their destruction is indicated by the knocking and rumbling of the drum, they need to be replaced. Although the tasks are different, the disassembly procedure is still similar.
